This original multimedia work are layers molding paste, acrylic, bone-colored linen, and found papers to evoke lineage, labor, and place, weaving together materials from Lima, Peru and the East Coast area as parallel landscapes that shape my identity. A laundromat receipt from Lima honors everyday service culture, while vintage papers from both cities—painted in echoing tones—create a visual dialogue between origins and migration. Anchored by a vintage photograph of a family portrait, the matriarch emerges as the heroine, marked by the X of the XX chromosome, as Family Matters reflects my journey of caregiving, ancestral responsibility, and the hard-won discovery of self-preservation.
